Showcase

During my journey in the Master of Arts in Education (MAED), I was provided with many learning experiences that enhanced my skills as an educator and life long learner. Although my career changed, my love of learning, literacy, and development continue on. In this showcase, you will see three sections of equal importance. The first section is "How & Who We Are", which demonstrates how myself personally and culture/social norms as a whole have evolved. The next section, "Literacy Learning" includes different ways in which literacy impact learning from a variety of different lenses. Last but certainly not least, "Best Learning Practices" which includes my personal beliefs on learning and how it best occurs, as well as scientifically proven and researched topics regarding skill and knowledge development. I selected these pieces I from a variety of different courses as I believe they are relevant in my life today, even outside of a classroom setting.
How & Who We Are

This presentation showcases how all humans are able to learn and acquire knowledge. It emphasizes the importance of social interactions throughout our lives and how ever changing contexts affect our thinking and development. I aimed for this presentation to showcase and represent how I use these skills regularly when both interacting and observing others to help me to understand and navigate social situations.

Everyone has a heritage and a story behind who they are. This relates not only to our culture and identities, but in turn our language is affected as well. This presentation focuses on my journey through discovering my families "language heritage". I truly believe that to get to know someone is to understand where they come from. This must come first in our journeys of building relationships.

The ever-changing state of technology and it's popularity has found it's way into the classroom. In this essay, I describe both the positive and negative effects of using such technologies in the classroom. Additionally, I hope to showcase my beliefs on the growing popularity of technology and showcase my persuasive abilities. Literacy Learning

This study was done with a second-grader who was struggling with reading and writing. I designed assessments and multiple lesson plans to gauge her skillset and best guide her learning. Working together, she made some impressive literacy growth! This shows my ability to connect with a learner, develop adequate assessments, and then create lesson plans that cater to their individual needs. This paper contains observations and findings after having observed a couple different English as a Second Language (ESL) lessons. These lessons were all done virtually and in a small group setting (2-3 kids). The differentiation in the lessons and for each student really shines and hopefully shows my appreciation for other cultures and young learners whose first language is not English. There is no denying certain books, series, and movies play a critical piece in people's lives. As an avid reader and movie-watcher myself, I can name a few books that have changed my life. Harry Potter was that series for many and changed generations to come. This essay explores both the negative and positive impact film and media can have on culture and society, and how I have continued to grow as a studier of literacy and media. Best Learning Practices

My "Personal Theory of Learning" exemplifies my thoughts and ideals surrounding learning. I discuss what learning is, how and when it occurs, as well as best practices that can follow to promote learning in a variety of settings. (Image by Tim Mossholder)

These posters show my creative and whimsical nature through my creation of posters to convey meaning. In this instance, they relate directly to assessments. They also have facts vs. fiction in regards to common assessment misconceptions.

This presentation flows through the process of learning at different skill levels. It explains the difference between "novice" vs. "expertise" and how one is able to move from one stage to the next (and every stage in between). I think about the concepts in this presentation often, as they relate to almost every skill we ever learn throughout our life to some degree. In my every day life. I continue to think about why and how to improve on certain aspects of my being/skillsets.
